Your Own Life Coach

Interested in having your own life coach? Then you’re in luck because this page will tell you everything you need to know about using a personal life coach.

(And if you're curious about who else has used my services and their experiences, check out my testimonials page.) What’s made you think about personal coaching?

Maybe you’re struggling with weight-loss issues.

Maybe you’re in the middle of a career transition.

Maybe you want to want to feel happier and more fulfilled.

Maybe you want to work on your own personal development.

Start Thinking About Your Goals

No matter what your goals, having your own life coach can help you put your challenges in perspective, organize and validate your thoughts, recognize and appreciate your strengths, commit to a plan of action, develop higher self confidence, and gain a sense of achievement from your successes.

A great way to start getting serious about your success is to rate the areas of your life, create your goals, identify your self-sabotage techniques, and assess the benefit of life coaching.

This is something you can work on with your own life coach to begin focusing your thoughts on where you are now, where you want to go, and how you're going to get there.

Coaching Details and Types

You may be curious about the details before your hire your own life coach. This may be the first time you’ve gotten this close to seeking out this type of service, so you may be feeling out of your comfort zone.

Here’s a great article by Thomas J. Leonard, a renowned leader in the coaching community, about the kind of talk that happens during many coaching sessions. It can give you a good idea of how proactive and varied these conversations can be.

If you’re still a little unsure about how life coaching works, that’s understandable. It’s a fairly new profession and is sometimes inaccurately portrayed in the media. But it’s essential for you to feel comfortable with the concept of being coached in a supportive and co-creative relationship so that you can realize your ultimate success!

There are generally two types of personal coaching: individual and group.

In individual coaching there are only two people in the coaching sessions—the client and the coach. This type of coaching is ideal if you have some personal challenges you’d like to dedicate specific energy and time on. Having a set amount of time each week set aside specifically for you and your needs is an amazing gift to yourself.

Most coaches offer telephone coaching and/or online coaching. Many of my clients have mentioned how surprised they were at how open and comfortable they felt in our phone and online sessions. But if you’d prefer to meet in person with your coach, you may be able to find one at www.locateacoach.com.

In group coaching, the coach typically works with a group of 15 clients or less. My most popular self help group for women utilizes both telephone sessions and an online discussion forum for maximum impact, participation opportunity, and discussion. Group coaching can be a very affordable way to work on important goals with the support, encouragement, and feedback from other people who are with you on the journey.

How Will You Know if Life Coaching is Working?

After finding a life coach you should be able to quickly get a sense of whether or not the relationship and process are working for you. The majority of your success depends on your own willingness to own your choices and be responsible for your happiness.

But your connection with your coach is incredibly important and must work for you. You’ll notice some concrete changes in yourself no matter what your goals. And you’ll be amazed at how a changing perspective can positively ripple throughout your life. Learn more about what successful life coaching looks like here.
