For Moms Trying to
Find a Balance

Are you trying to find a balance in your life? You are not alone! Being a mom is a role that requires so much juggling, flexibility, and creativity that you're bound to feel easily overwhelmed and off center...often!

Trying to find a balance? We know that moms have the hardest jobs around, but sometimes even we don't appreciate that. We often expect the most out of ourselves, while we give breaks and consideration to the next person. The trick is trying to find a balance between striving to be the best mom/wife/friend/person you can be with compassion, acceptance, and understanding for yourself.

This page details some of the challenges that mothers run into. If you find yourself trying to find a balance among different aspects of your life, you will probably see yourself in some of the following paragraphs!

Relationships

Have you noticed your relationships changing ever since you became a mom? Friends you used to be really close to seemed to drift away. You and your husband seem to bicker more often. Your extended family either steps on your toes or doesn't help out enough. Or maybe the biggest change for you has been learning how to adapt to a blended family and dealing with the challenges that arise from that.

As women, we tend to be very emotionally connected to and defined by our relationships. When we become mothers, those relationships begin to naturally change. You know what I mean! Sometimes the changes are minute and easy, other times they are drastic and shocking. Some relationships can weather the changes, some can't. The key is to learn to adapt to those changes, in one way or another, so that you can move forward.

When you start to feel concerned about a relationship in your life, remember that you do have control over your end of the relationship. So, no matter how the other person acts or what she says, you can choose how to respond. And practicing this can empower you more than you know!

Being A Good Mother

Many moms end up trying to find a balance between being super mom and nurturing themselves. I think the trick to being balanced is to be content with being a good mother. Good mothers understand that they make mistakes, they can't deliver 100% to everyone all of the time, and that they are doing the best they can with what they have.

If you'd like something refreshing to read, check out these mother quotes. Some are humorous, some are thought provoking, some are stirring, but all can rejuvenate your spirit and remind you of the good mother you are striving to be every day!

And if you're looking for cool things to do with your kids, check out the great website www.fun-stuff-on-the-web.com! It has all sorts of fun things for families to do together, or for your kids to do safely on their own (whew!). The selection is amazing, ranging from funny tongue twisters, to making greeting cards, to links to kid-friendly websites. Check them out for a variety of family fun!

Work

"A mother's job is never done" and isn't that the truth! Whether you work outside the home, work at home, or are a stay at home mom, your day and night are filled with work. For many mothers, trying to find a balance between "work" and play is challenging.

And most mothers will err on the side of working too much and too hard because they are used to being busy and productive. Taking time to enjoy your family, enjoy time alone, or enjoy a night out with friends is essential in balancing out the many hours of hard work you put in.

I'll soon be detailing how I became a work from home mom…so come back soon!

Getting Help

Do you have people in your life you can turn to when you need a break? Are you feeling lonely? A strong support system is one of the most important things for any mother to have, at every stage of her motherhood. Raising children is not easy, nor is it a limited engagement, so be prepared for the long haul!

Many moms are reluctant to ask for help. They are not used to it, feel ashamed, or don't want to be seen as failures. But when you're trying to find a balance in your life and raise the family you desire, it is essential to ask for and receive help from others. There are many other resources available to you in addition to your own friends and family.

A wonderful internet resource for moms, whether you are trying to conceive or are wrangling teenagers, is at ivillage. There you will find all sorts of useful information on parenting and taking care of yourself.

Good resources on natural parenting are also plentiful on the web. Dr. Sears, famous for his many books on attachment parenting, has a wonderful website. If you are interested in breastfeeding, look at www.lalecheleague.org and www.kellymom.com for some validating and helpful information.
