The Benefit of Physical Exercise

The benefit of physical exercise simply can not be overstated. It can even positively affect parts of ourselves and our lives in ways that may not be obvious!

Physical exercise benefits everyone, regardless of size, shape, or fitness level. Just making the smallest changes to your daily routine can lead to long term benefits. You can even enjoy the emotional benefits of exercise - more on that in a minute!

Leisurely bike ride

There is a wide range of people who exercise, from hard core athletes to folks who simply make daily choices for more physical movement. And one thing they all have in common is taking responsibility for their own health.

Obviously, parking in the furthest parking space or taking the stairs do not compare in intensity to the rigors an athlete goes through. But anyone can benefit from being more conscientious about her level of physical movement. And that starts with knowing the benefits.

It takes self-discipline to incorporate more movement into your life. Whether you participate in daily exercise classes or take a weekly walk during lunch, there are definitely times when you'd much rather sleep in or relax in your air conditioned office. But when you make the choice to go out and exercise anyway, you are honing your self-discipline. And who of us couldn't use a little more of that?!

Fitting exercise into your busy life will also improve your organizational skills. Finding the time and place to move whether it be at the gym, at home, or on the pavement, requires a plan and some determination.

Another great benefit of physical exercise is the feeling of accomplishment you get from finding the time and then doing something good for yourself! What a small thing to do that can provide such a big feeling of achievement.

Soccer ball Maybe your life lacks excitement. Participating in a competitive environment (with a team sport or as an individual) can provide a healthy dose of excitement and competition. Or, if your life feels too exciting already, you can choose an exercise method that provides more serenity.

Still another benefit of physical exercise is that, depending on what form you choose, it can provide a means of socializing or a means of solitude. Getting this extra time to meet with friends or be alone could make a big difference in how you feel the rest of the week!

Many people also find that physical exercise benefits them in an unexpected way. They find themselves being able to function more effectively, handle difficulties with more ease, and take on life's challenges with more confidence.

Could this be from an elevated mood and an increase in self-confidence? Many people experience these emotional benefits of exercise, often feeling better after exercising than before.

The benefit of physical exercise varies greatly, from strengthening specific organs in your body to helping neutralize negative feelings. Exercising is a good thing you can do for your mind, your body, and your energy.
